This book consists of 14 chapters, in which the first chapter expresses the history of anesthesia and its evolution, and at the end anesthesia in veterinary is described.
Next chapter expresses the technical and important expressions and words, which have special meanings in the anesthesia field. The third chapter consists of the methods and common hypothesis about the creation of anesthesia and the performance of anesthetic factors. In this chapter, the base of each hypothesis is expressed and in some cases, the suggestions or the strong and weak points are mentioned; and at the end, a general conclusion of the hypothesis is given. The fourth chapter lists the uses of anesthesia for veterinary purposes. And in the next chapter, various types of local and general are listed; in this chapter, the methods of anesthesia are ordered according to the usage of the drugs. The sixth chapter discusses the signs of general anesthesia. In this chapter, divided phases of general anesthesia and its clinical signs on different parts of body are described. In the seventh chapter, the physiology of gases and vapors of anesthetic drugs are mentioned. In this part, I tried to express those principles that are more important and are more practical than the others; in addition to these principles, the practical usage of them in daily life and their importance are expressed. In the eighth chapter, the necessary equipments for performing the inhalation anesthesia are listed; furthermore, the necessary information is given for each equipment. In the next chapter, the absorption and excretion of the inhaling drugs from the lungs are described; understanding the concepts of this chapter is important in using the evaporating factors and gases. The tenth chapter consists of the expressions and important physiological concepts, which have many applications in inhalation anesthesia. Up to this part of the book, all necessary issues in understanding chapter 11 are expressed ; and with the information, which is given in the next chapters, it is possible to examine different systems in inhalation anesthesia. The eleventh chapter is the most important part of the book, where various types of systems in inhalation anesthesia are discussed. In this chapter, eighteen different systems in inhalation anesthesia are described that in description, the equipments and the usage of it are expressed respectively. At the end of this chapter, in order to clear the extent of usage of each system, the advantages and disadvantages of each system are discussed from different perspectives such as the facilities of anesthetist and the type of animal were taken in to consideration. The twelfth chapter discusses the importance and ways of controlling and monitoring of the anesthetist on the respiratory tract of the anesthetized animal. In the next chapter, the connection of anesthetic inhaling system into the lungs or upper respiratory tract of the animal are ordered and discussed. In addition, there is some information about the necessary equipments; also, the exact method of putting a pipe in to the trachea in different domestic animals is mentioned. The advantages and disadvantages of using pipes are discussed in the same chapter. The last chapter of the present book is about the intravenous anesthesia. In this chapter, the vast usage and necessary equipments for performing anesthesia via injection in the vein are described; and the ways of using different blood vessels in domestic animals are expressed. At the end of the fourteenth chapter, the advantages and disadvantages of intravenous anesthesia versus inhalation anesthesia are mentioned. At the end, with the positive and negative points, which were given before about the different methods of anesthesia, it is concluded that a compound method of intravenous anesthesia and inhalation anesthesia is the best anesthesia method for middle and long duration.
